Hoping for a brighter tomorrow (I)

Iata ca a venit randul Ruxandrei Mindru, castigatoarea locului I la competitia nationala de eseuri a Shakespeare School (11-14 ani) si eleva in Piatra Neamt, sa ne povesteasca experienta scolii de vara la St. Michael”s College, obtinute ca premiu!

Ruxandra si-a facut bagajele pentru Anglia si ne-a trimis si cateva ganduri!

Hoping for a brighter tomorrow

I know it may seem strange. The headline, I mean. But I think that that’s the most important thing that two weeks at St. Michael’s College taught me: to have hope and wait for tomorrow, never to be afraid of it!

These two weeks helped me make more friends than I ever had my entire life and trust me: 13 years are a lot of time!!! I was happier than ever to be on my own and it truly made me a lot more confident and also trust other people…

I hate planes! I can tell every single disaster that can occur in, at or on a plane, from decompresions to fires! That’s why I never enjoyed flying as I might’ve. Still, the excitement in the air, the thought that in two hours, I’ll walk on British teritory, that I was going to be there because of an essay that I never even tought would make the top fifteen! That’s why the flight was pleasant and pretty short!

As we arrived at Heathrow, I had to find the driver that was to take me to St Michael’s. John Moore. Great man. Three hours in the car, so I had time to watch the landscape of dear old England. It may seem strange, but the fields and hills weren’t so different from the ones back home. It felt so at home, with its pretty little villages and houses! Loved it!!!

I arrived at St Michael’s and I was led to my bedroom, which I shared with two Russian girls, Milena and Vasilisa, and a Spanish one, Sara. I took a tour around the campus, saw the dining room, ripped out of a Harry Potter book, the football fields and all the beautiful facilities of the school.

That afternoon wasn’t special, I knew nobody and my room-mates had their own friends to talk to. So it was pretty strange, but not upseting or discouraging. Just strange…
