Remember Adam Clark’s article on intellectual curiosity? Well, I must say that one of the greatest gifts a student can have is just that, the thirst for knowledge and the joy of gaining it. All of us have this, in varying degrees, and now, I am going to tell you about one of our students who has got loads of it!
A couple of weeks ago, Andrei Tudorache, one of my students in the YLE Flyers course, came to class and told us that he had won first prize in the ‘Cangurul’ Competition. He was really excited to share this good news with us as he hadn’t expected to come out first in the competition.
This made me research more on the competition as I didn’t know very much about it, besides it being a contest that tests your language skills. Looking through the test, I realized that it doesn’t only test comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, but also logic and general knowledge. About 73, 000 students participated in this competition and we sure are proud that one of the winners from the 5th and 6th grades category is from Shakespeare School!
Andrei is now looking forward to going to Croatia this August. He will spend 8 days there with the other winners, visiting the cultural hotspots, going to the world renowned Plitvice Lakes National Park as well as basking in the sun on the beaches of Croatia. Now this is a great reward for being intellectually curious!
