SWITCHING PLACES, by Andra Sabau
?Dear, go do your homework!? my mother called. I sighed. ?Fine, mum.?
I went upstairs and I sat at my desk, looking out the window, staring into space. Something shiny caught my eye and I soon realized it was a shooting star. Suddenly, I had an idea. ?I wish I had never had to do homework ever again?, I thought to myself. Then, the star vanished.
I turned to my desk and laid my head on the desk soon falling asleep. When I woke up, everything was different. I carefully got out of bed, not realizing where I was, although the room had a familiar air to it. I passed by a mirror and I saw something really strange. Instead of me, there was my mom. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn?t dreaming, but I was still there.
I suddenly heard a phone ringing. I picked it up and answered it.
?Hello?? I asked in a really anxious voice.
?Mrs. Sanders??responded the man. ?Are you still coming to the meeting??
?Umm?yes.?
?Then hurry up, or you?ll get fired.?
I ran to the bathroom and got changed. I stormed out of the house and rushed to the bus stop. I jumped in the first to come and got out when I saw my mom?s office building. I went inside and ran to the conference room.
?Violet? You?re late.?, my mom?s boss said.
?And fired.?, she added.
I felt tears coming down my cheeks and before she could say anything else I ran out of the room. I walked home, wishing everything would go back to normal. I wasn?t ready to be a grown up.
?Amy, wake up!? I heard my mother say.
I jumped out of my seat and looked around me. I was home. And my own self!
I hugged my mom tightly and smiled.
?Umm?mom? I said. ?Your boss is horrible.?
She looked at me in confusion. But I didn?t care she thought I was mental. I was happy. I was a child and that was how I wanted to stay.
