Yesterday evening my father was so tired that he fell asleep on the sofa while he was watching TV. All day he had been working so hard to repair the roof. I looked at his hands, beautiful yet, wounded hands. I sat next to him and closing my eyes, I began to think: ” I wish I were an adult, I wish I were able to help my father…”
Suddenly, I opened my eyes and looked around. On the sofa, next to me, there was a child. I looked at myself and I was amazed to discover that I was his father. It was raining and the roof was leaking. My first thought was to have it repaired immediately. I called a specialist. He did a very good job in only a few hours and it cost me a lot of money. My savings were gone but I was happy. Now, my family was safe.
Before going to bed that night, I went to say “Good night” to my son and give him a hug.
“Dad, tomorrow is my birthday. I’ve been a dilligent boy so, I hope I’ll get the red bycicle I want!”
I could barely hide my tears. There were no money left for a present. I wish I did the repairs myself and saved the money…I should have thought about my son’s birthday…
Suddenly, I felt a strong hand touching my shoulder and trying to comfort me. ” Don’t cry! It was just a dream!”, my father said. “Look! This is the red bike you wanted for your birthday. I hope you like it!”
It had been a dream…I had been daydreaming! I was so happy to be a child and have a father that never forgets my birthday! He had repaired the roof by himself and hurt his hands just to save the money for my bike.
My father’s hands were still bleeding, but he was so happy to see me happy!
